Live Wire Sounds Presents:

2017 AthFest Club Crawl @ Live Wire Athens

feat. Bella’s Bartok, PolyMath, Heart of Pine and the Redstone Ramblers

Bella’s Bartok – 1:00am June 23, 2017

To understand Bella’s Bartok, imagine what you would get if Salvador Dali and Toulouse Lautrec were fronting the Moulin Rouge’s house band, and you have the exuberant spectacle that is Bella’s Bartok. Described as “about as much fun as you can have with your pants on” (Dan Wolovick, Two Way Monologues), this 6-piece powerhouse melds Bohemian Klezmer Punk with pop sensibilities into an eminently danceable party. The diversity of musicians that make up Bella’s Bartok, combined with their boundless energy on stage, has been known to break a dancefloor, or two (or three, but who’s counting?). Their sound moves way beyond labels, pushing the envelope towards the darker side of Eastern European music, referencing vaudeville and 20th century eclecticism.

PolyMath – 12:00 AM June 23, 2017

Logan Riley Carroll and Tanner Scott Corley spent several years separately writing and performing in various groups with a diverse range of genres. It wasn’t until they met at Anderson University that the duo began working together, pulling from their respective musical backgrounds to produce a sound that was more unique than either could have ever envisioned.
When the band began to take form, the idea of including all friends in the group was installed. Whether they be playing an instrument, holding a camera, or creating an art piece that can be featured on stage or a poster, each individual that participated was adopted into the family. This quickly became the group’s mission statement and the name “Polymath” seemed to fit naturally as it embodied the values expressed.

Heart of Pine – 11:00 PM June 23, 2017

Redstone Ramblers – 10:00 PM June 23, 2017

The Redstone Ramblers is a Country Delta Blues band from Jefferson GA. Performing originals and classic covers. Southern stories from Georgia’s back roads.

feat. Universal Sigh, Robbie Dude, The Georgia Flood, Moon Chief

with/ THE AFTERFEST GETDOWN SUPERJAM AT 1AM…a time to let go of everything and get down!

The Georgia Flood – 9:00 PM June 24th, 2017

Groove-heavy and Genre-bending, The Georgia Flood’s music has evolved over the years. Their new album, People Like Ourselves, draws on indelible melodies, clever lyrics, and an infectious energy; weaving together an EP that hits all the right notes. The Atlanta based duo, Lane Kelly and Brooks Mason, are brothers who began playing when they were seven and nine years old respectively. Hustling birthday parties and family reunions the brothers changed sounds numerous times through their teens.  Drawing on their exploration of numerous genres, their songwriting channels classic guitar driving riffs with modern pop sensibilities.

Moon Chief – 10:00 PM June 24th, 2017

Universal Sigh – 11:00 PM June 24th, 2017

Universal Sigh is a high energy, metamorphic rock show. Hailing from Athens, GA the foursome features a two-guitar attack and driving rhythm section, producing versatile music which reflects a deep fondness for artists such as Radiohead, Snarky Puppy, and Umphrey’s McGee. Influenced by a myriad of musical styles, the quartet has crafted a diverse catalog, which includes both lyrical tunes and instrumental arrangements. Each song is a voyage, with harmonious melodies soaring through epic peaks and dramatic descents into electrifying funk grooves. Fluid and dynamic, the Sigh is equipped with an abundance of compositions to energize any musical atmosphere.

Robbie Dude – 12:00 AM June 24th, 2017

A master at the art of mixing, Robbie Dude takes you on a journey through musical time and space in which genre has no reign. From old school hip-hop mash-ups with new age soul beats, to classic rock hits underlined with bass heavy bangers, Robbie Dude has the vibes to get the party started and take it all the way to the break of dawn. Having shared the stage the likes of Minnesota, ill. Gates, The Floozies, Eliot Lipp, Exmag, Manic Focus, Vibestreet, Thriftworks, Daily Bread, Robotic Pirate Monkey, Terravita, Prophet Massive, Marvel Years and performing at CounterPoint 2015, his body of work seems to speak for itself.

Each time I get behind my computer and controllers, I want to convey a piece of myself. Whether it’s the struggles I’ve been going through that week; the different ideals and morals that make up what I believe in as a human living in these crazy illuminated times we call the present; or just tunes that take me back to times when life wasn’t so chaotic, each Robbie Dude experience should be something that comes from the heart and has depth that should touch some part of you.

Live Wire Athens and Georgia Theatre Presents:

El Ten Eleven

w/ Sego

September 16, 2017 8pm

El Ten Eleven started as a duo in 2002 in Silverlake and have released six solely instrumental LPs to date using unique gear such as guitar/bass doublenecks, fretless bass, looping pedals and both electronic and acoustic drums.

“It’s almost like our looping pedals themselves are instruments we’ve had to master,” bass player/composer Kristian Dunn explains. “I’ll loop Tim’s electronic drums with one of my pedals while looping my own bassline, then switch to my six string bass mid-song while he moves to playing acoustic drums, layering up the sonics and shaping the song as it all grows.”

By refusing to use anything pre-recorded live they’ve pushed themselves into new territory, now able to deftly recreate their complex compositions nightly.

After 15 years together they’ve attained hard-won virtuosity with the devices and can now concentrate on songwriting itself rather than logistics. “Almost nothing we do is improvised live,” says Dunn. “When we first started playing shows we’d sometimes run into trouble with the loops and have to stop mid-song and try again!”

El Ten Eleven released their sixth full length album Fast Forward in 2015, and will release their first-ever vocal collaboration EP titled Unusable Love featuring Emile Mosseri on August 18, 2017.

MEH Talks: Episode 1 @ Live Wire Athens
Oct 18 @ 7:00 pm

Meh Talks: The Non Mediocre Knowledge of Mediocre Ladies.

Imagine, if you will, a life where we all stopped striving for perfection and embraced the beauty of our imperfect, sometimes glorious, oftentimes mediocre lives. Everybody has something about which they are passionate or at which they are expert. We often feel like there is no meaningful forum to share these seemingly mundane details of our lives. MEH Talks mission is to provide that forum in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Our ladies will choose their own topics and talk about their skills, knowledge,or wisdom acquired throughout their years of living their unique and individual lives. Each month will be as unique as the gifts, talents, and passions of the women who offer themselves as speakers.

Speakers:
@Amanda Auchepuagh Cook
Burlesque as a Vulnerability Practice: Shedding Your Clothes and Your Insecurities

Diana Griffin Lawson
Powerlifting For All Women: Deal With Chronic Pain, Autoimmune Disease, and Stress Like a Badass

Casey Morrison-Fuller
Reducing, Minimizing, Organizing: Because Less Stuff Means Less Bullshit
Shannon Martinez will be the night’s emcee.

This event is open to all genders. Presenters will be women, or those who self-identify as women. Well-behaved husbands, partners and kids are welcome. Please feel free to bring children and babies, it’s okay to take them out if they are unhappy being still and quiet. There is a PA outside so you can still hear. Dogs on leashes are welcome in the courtyard. A full cash bar, plenty of seating and a supportive, encouraging audience will be provided.

Tickets/entry fee will be $7, 10% of Profits will be Donated to The Cottage

ATHICA: Athens Institute for Contemporary Art is an independent, non-profit gallery promoting and supporting innovative contemporary art and artists through exhibitions, education, and events. ATHICA is committed to the local art community and to bringing in national and international contemporary artists of all media. The programming features rotating exhibitions of various themes and affiliated events (such as performances, lectures, workshops, children’s events, curated tours, and more). Calls for entry attract curators and artists from all over the world, resulting in four major exhibitions annually.

HISTORY

ATHICA has a unique role and mission in the Athens and Northeast Georgia community. No other similar venue offers an independent focus solely on contemporary art. As an independent and non-profit entity, support from our community and beyond has enabled us to fulfill our mission since our founding in 2001-2002. Thanks to the generosity and vision of FiveArt, Inc., a group of local developers and arts boosters, a 2,200 square foot space in a warehouse that is jointly owned by the Chase Street Park Condominium Association, was renovated in winter of 2001 to serve as an alternative, non-commercial art space dedicated to exhibiting challenging and innovative contemporary art. The board, made up of local artists, arts professionals and arts supporters, works to ensure the continuation of the organization as originally conceived through the efforts of Emeritus Director and founder Lizzie Zucker Saltz.

ATHICA registered as a non-profit organization in the state of Georgia in November 2001. ATHICA achieved advance ruling of Federal tax-exempt status (501 (c)(3)) in July 2002 and permanent confirmation after the 5-year period in 2006. ATHICA opened in March 2002 with its first exhibit, Raw Womyn. Since then, Chase Street Park Warehouses have emerged as a new urban arts district, with recording studios, internet businesses and numerous artists’ studios, all just a little over a mile from our thriving downtown in Athens, Georgia.

In summer 2008, ATHICA was awarded a prestigious three-year grant of $45,000 from The Andy Warhol Foundation for Contemporary Art, which allowed the organization to provide stipends for artists, curators, and a director who served as senior curator on all exhibits during that time. In 2010, ATHICA was awarded an equally prestigious one-year grant from The Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation in support of the production of color catalogs. In 2015, ATHICA received the Favorite Place to See Local Art award from Flagpole Magazine’s annual poll for the fifth consecutive year and was awarded the Merit Award for Excellence in Public Art by the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission.

Over the past decade ATHICA has presented over 1149 regional, national, and international artists in 59 exhibitions and hundreds of affiliated events. ATHICA features four distinct exhibitions yearly, including the recent “J1” juried exhibition curated by Michael Rooks of the High Musuem.

Today ATHICA is primarily supported by numerous local businesses, individuals, and above all, artists, while continuing to seek new funding from foundations and grants.
